Description

As well as an extensive low moor, the Tiefenwald moor is home to the only raised bog in the Großes Walsertal Biosphere Reserve, with very rare plant species such as sundew, cranberry and marsh lycopod. In the species-rich fens, the orchids, some of which occur in large numbers, the rare feverfew and, in late summer, the swallow-leaved gentian are particularly striking. Because of its rarity and species richness, the bog has been designated a core zone of the Großes Walsertal Biosphere Reserve, a habitat particularly worthy of protection.
