Land Art installation "Metamorphosis Walserkamm" by Matthias Würfel
Description
"With Metamorphose Walserkamm, I was less concerned with defining a shape and more with defining a feeling when experiencing this place. Here, the mountain gently unites with the sky and encourages us to feel lightness". The material he used was the old, solid beams of the dilapidated alpine barn ("Schärma") of the Oberalpe, some 150 metres below, which he worked exclusively with a chainsaw into slender, relatively light elements. By transforming it into a sculpture, he gave new meaning to the disused, partially rotten timber. In an elevated position, the installation forms a creative counterpart to the ruins of the Alpine barn and invites the viewer to stand in the centre of the sculpture in order to open up to the feeling of letting go and an inner liberation with outstretched arms. At this moment, the human body completes the art object and becomes part of it.
