Bonfire in Blons

On Spark Sunday, the Chrochner (school children) and the Fachilischwinger (boys who erect the spark) go from house to house, reciting their little rhyme and wishing you good luck. In the evening, with the burning of the spark, winter is symbolically driven out. You can easily remember the date: Spark Sunday is always on the first Sunday of Lent. The spark fire – or simply spark – is an old fire custom that is still widespread in the Swabian-Alemannic region today. Around the spark fir, a wooden tower is erected, which is then ignited. Since 2010, the Vorarlberg spark tradition has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in Austria.
