Formarinsee - A high mountain lake of natural origin in the Lechquellengebirge mountains

At the end of the Zugertal valley, amidst the Lechquellen mountains, lies the Formarin Lake at an altitude of 1,793 m. The high alpine lake has a natural origin, forming anew each year from the meltwater of the surrounding mountains.

Geographically, the lake is located in the municipality of Dalaas and can be reached on foot via the StebokWäg from Klostertal, the Großes Walsertal, and from Lech-Zürs. For those who prefer a more leisurely approach, there is a local bus/hiking bus departing from Lech on line 707, which takes you through the Zugertal directly to Formarin Lake. The area around Formarin Lake is very popular with hikers and climbers, offering numerous routes with stunning panoramic views.

Access by car to Formarin Lake is only possible via the toll road from the district of Zug. Additionally, there is a general driving ban in place between 08:00 and 16:30, as well as all day on Wednesdays; however, the local bus/hiking bus (for a fee) operates regularly during these times.

Below Formarin Lake, the Lechweg trail begins, which leads through the Alps in multi-day stages and one of the last wild river landscapes in Europe.
