Coffee house culture in Bludenz

Already at the beginning of the 20th century, there were a number of coffee houses in Bludenz, some of which had the flair of Viennese cafés. On the one hand, they were popular meeting places for the citizens of Bludenz, thus largely apolitical. On the other hand, particularly in the first half of the 20th century, some establishments also became attractions for political parties.

After the Second World War, the coffee house culture experienced a gradual decline, which was accompanied by a steady dying out of inns. Today, not a single establishment remains to remind us of the early heyday; indeed, many cafés that were still thriving towards the end of the century lost significance and were gradually closed.
